Shahid Afridi Got ‘Boom Boom’ Nickname From This Indian Cricketer


Former Pakistani all-rounder and Captain, Shahid Afridi considered as one of the most destructive all-rounders of all time revealed on Monday that it was an Indian cricketer who gave him the name ‘Boom Boom.’
The former captain Shahid Afridi, who proclaimed himself on the international stage with a record-breaking 37-ball century, was known as ‘Boom Boom’ for his explosive style of play.
Talking to fans during a Q&A session on Twitter, Afridi was asked about the person who gave him the famous ‘Boom Boom’ title.
Afridi revealed that former Indian all-rounder and present Indian coach Ravi Shastri was the brain behind the nickname.
Ravi Shastri, who played for India side between 1981 and 1992, featured in 80 Test matches and 150 ODIs. He is presently the head coach of the Indian cricket team, which is currently in action against England in the five-match Test series.
He also revealed his favourite bowlers are Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath.
Shahid Afridi also said he enjoyed bowling to former South African captain AB de Villiers when he was given four choices by a fan. Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara and opener Tillakaratne Dilshan were among the options. India’s combative opener Virender Sehwag was also one of the choices for Shahid Afridi.
Before retiring from international cricket Shahid Afridi played 398 ODIs, 99 T20Is and 27 Tests. In ODIs, he has scored 8064 runs with six centuries and thirty-nine fifties. In T20Is, he had 1416 runs with four half-centuries while in Test cricket, he uncovered 1716 runs with five centuries and eight half-centuries.
Shahid Afridi holds the record for hitting the most sixes in One Day International, he has so far smashed 289 sixes in 325 matches. Sanath Jayasuriya who is second in the list has 270 sixes to his name in 444 ODI matches.
Shahid Afridi was due to play in the ongoing Carribean Premier League (CPL) 2018 for Jamaica Tallawahs. However, Afridi failed to take part as he did not successfully recover from his knee issue.
