Hello everyone and welcome to coverage of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2018 Trinbago Knight Riders will face St Lucia Stars in the first match of CPL 2018, which will be played in Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad at 5:30 am tomorrow.
Trinbago Knight Riders won last year’s CPL, having finished top of the group with eight wins from their ten matches. Their first defeat was against Jamaica Tallawahs by four wickets and other defeat came in their group final game which they lost by only 16 runs against Barbados Tridents. However, Brendan McCullum and Colin Munro were their stars in the previous league, scoring three half-centuries in each and weighing in with 335 and 366 runs respectively.
St Lucia Stars had a very bad campaign in 2017. They picked up just one point in last season’s CPL and that was thanks to a no result against St Kitts & Nevis, as they were outplayed throughout the tournament. With the bat, St Lucia will depend on David Warner and Kieron Pollard. With the ball, Mitchell McClenaghan and Mohammad Sami are expected to open the attack for the team and will be their key bowlers against Trinbago Knight Riders.
In the first match of the Carribean Premier League, defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders cruised to comfortable win of 100 runs. Dwayne Bravo led side turned out to be too strong for St Lucia Stars. Kieron Pollard won the toss and decided to bowl first. The reigning champions Trinbago Knight Riders were able to put 195 on the board after potent knocks from Colin Munro and Denesh Ramdin.
Munro scored a brisk knock of 68 runs off just 48. The combative southpaw batsman scored nine boundaries and one maximum in his blistering knock. Meanwhile, the finishing touches to the innings were provided by wicketkeeper-batsman, Denesh Ramdin. The gloveman scored two fours and four sixes in his knock.
On the other hand, no St Lucia Stars batsmen were able to get going as no one got past the 20-run mark. Trinbago Knight Riders skipper Dwayne Bravo scalped three wickets and gave away only 11 runs in the three overs. Furthermore, Fawad Ahmed was the other chief destroyer as he took three wickets and conceded 16 runs in his four overs quota. Meanwhile, Australia’s pugnacious opener David Warner continued his struggle as he could only score nine runs. Warner’s woodwork was disturbed by all-rounder Javon Searles.
Therefore, the Trinbago Knight Riders were able to start their Carribean Premier League campaign with an easy win. In fact, the hosts were always in a shoo-in position.Consequently, the Dwayne Bravo led side will like to continue their domination. On the other hand, St Lucia Stars will aim to bounce back after an ignominious defeat.
