Spinner Rashid Recalled to England Squad for First Test Against India

England recalled Adil Rashid to their 13-man squad announced Thursday for next week’s first Test against India even though the Yorkshire leg-spinner has opted out of playing first-class County Championship cricket this season.
Rashid is the leading wicket-taker in one-day and Twenty20 internationals for England this summer, with 25 victims to his name thus far.
His performances came at a time when England are short of spin options in the five-day arena too. Moeen Ali lost his place following a difficult winter and Dom Bess and Jack Leach have been handed debuts since.
Last week, England coach Trevor Bayliss had said that Rashid could earn an England Test recall to face India but only if he changed his mind over red-ball cricket.
Rashid is not the first player to get a Test recall on the basis of his performances in limited overs cricket. Jos Buttler had gotten a recall to the England Test squad for the Pakistan series based on his performances in the IPL 2018.
The first Test match between India and England begins on August 1, 2018.
Full squad: Joe Root, Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Jamie Porter.
