Joe Root moves into second position in latest ICC ODI rankings

Joe Root’s back-to-back centuries in the three-match ODI series against India have helped to move him into second place in the latest ICC ODI Player Rankings. The England batsman leapfrogged Babar Azam (Pakistan), Rohit Sharma (India), David Warner (Australia) and Ross Taylor (New Zealand) to a career-high position.
The England batsman Joe Root scored 3, 113 not out and 100 not out in the three games against India to move behind Indian captain Virat Kohli. Root, who earned 34 points after his fantastic batting performances is now 93 points behind Kohli and is also only one point away from his career-best points tally of 819, which he had achieved against Australia earlier this year in Brisbane.
India spinner Kuldeep Yadav took nine wickets in the series and climbed to a career-high sixth place in the standings.Yadav is the third India bowler to feature in the top-10 after number-one ranked Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal (10th) to find a place in the 10 highest-ranked bowlers.
In the ODI team rankings, the top ranked team England gained one point and moved to 127, while India dropped one point and have 121 which means the four point pre series gap has now extended to six points.
Root described his celebration as the most embarrassing thing he had done on a cricket field.
“It was something that I immediately regretted,” Root said.
“I’ve not heard the end of it, it was literally the most embarrassing thing I’ve done on a cricket field. I don’t think it will be the last I hear of it from the group – they’ve been hammering me.
England skipper Eoin Morgan has been speaking up his team-mate Root, following latest strong performances.
‘It is extraordinarily encouraging for Joe,’ mentioned Morgan. 
‘The composure he is proven within the final two video games is the Joe Root we all know and belief. He has been hungry for runs and I am positive that can proceed.’
